ATM Split — Privacy Policy & Terms of Use
Effective date: April 13, 2026 | Last updated: August 5, 2026
This document contains both the Privacy Policy and the Terms of Use for ATM Split. Please read both sections carefully before using the App.
Part I — Privacy Policy
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy explains how ATM Split ("the App"), developed and published by Approve The Move ("we", "us", or "our"), handles information when you ("you" or "the user") download, install, or use the App on any supported device.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy applies to all versions of ATM Split distributed through the Apple App Store and any future platforms.
By downloading, installing, or using ATM Split, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App and remove it from your device.
2. Information We Collect
We do not collect, transmit, or process any personal data. ATM Split is designed from the ground up as a privacy-first application. Specifically:
- No account creation — You are never required or asked to sign up, log in, create an account, or provide an email address, phone number, or any other personal identifier.
- No analytics or tracking — We do not use any analytics frameworks, crash reporting services, telemetry tools, device fingerprinting, or usage tracking of any kind.
- No advertising — The App contains no advertisements, no advertising SDKs, no ad identifiers (IDFA), and no advertising networks.
- No cloud sync — The App does not sync data to iCloud, our servers, or any third-party cloud service. All data remains exclusively on your device.
- No in-app purchases — No financial, billing, or payment information is collected or processed.
- No location data — The App does not request, access, or store your geographic location.
- No contacts or photos — The App does not access your contacts, photo library, camera, microphone, or any other device sensor beyond haptic feedback.
We do not sell, rent, or trade any personal information — we never possess it in the first place. Because no personal data ever reaches us, there is nothing for us to sell, share, monetize, or lose.
3. On-Device Storage
ATM Split stores data locally on your device using two Apple-provided storage systems: SwiftData (a persistent on-device database) and UserDefaults (lightweight key-value storage for preferences). All data is stored within the App's private sandbox, is not accessible to other apps, and never leaves your device.
3.1 SwiftData (Persistent Storage)
The App uses Apple's SwiftData framework to store your expense-related data on-device. This includes:
- Expense groups (names, creation dates, currencies)
- Members and persons within each group
- Individual expenses (amounts, descriptions, dates, payers)
- Split shares (how each expense is divided among members)
- Settlements (who owes whom and how much)
- Categories assigned to expenses
This data is stored in a local SQLite database managed by SwiftData within the App's sandbox. It is not uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere. There is no iCloud sync, no cloud backup of App data, and no server-side storage.
3.2 UserDefaults (Preferences)
A small amount of non-personal preference data is stored using Apple's UserDefaults system:
- Theme preference (System, Light, or Dark)
- Accent color selection
- Haptic feedback preference
- A cached copy of the most recently fetched exchange rates, kept so conversions still work offline (contains only public rate numbers, no personal data)
Both storage mechanisms are declared in our Privacy Manifest (PrivacyInfo.xcprivacy) under API category NSPrivacyAccessedAPICategoryUserDefaults with reason code CA92.1 (access to store and retrieve user preferences), as required by Apple.
How to delete: You can delete any individual group, expense, member, or settlement within the App at any time. To erase all data permanently, delete ATM Split from your device. The App itself retains no residual data after uninstallation. Please note, however, that device or iCloud backups you made before deleting the App may still contain copies of its data; those backups are managed by you and Apple and are outside our control.
4. Network Activity
ATM Split makes one type of network request: fetching live currency exchange rates to support multi-currency expense splitting.
4.1 Exchange Rate Requests
- Endpoint: The App retrieves exchange rate data from open.er-api.com, a public currency exchange rate API.
- Data sent: The request contains only the base currency code (e.g., "USD", "QAR") as a URL path parameter. No personal data, device identifiers, IP-based tracking, or user information of any kind is included in the request.
- Data received: The response contains only currency exchange rate numbers. No tracking cookies, tokens, or user-identifying data are returned.
- Frequency: A refresh is triggered when you open the add- or edit-expense screen, so up-to-date rates are ready if you enter a foreign-currency amount. Requests are never made on a background schedule, and the most recent rates are cached for reuse.
- Offline use: The App remains functional offline: if a rate request fails or you have no connection, it falls back to the last cached rates (and a set of rates bundled with the App). Single-currency groups never need a rate at all.
4.2 No Other Network Communication
Apart from exchange rate requests, the App does not connect to the internet, does not make any other HTTP requests, and does not transmit any data to any external server, cloud service, or remote endpoint. There is no telemetry, no analytics pings, no crash reporting uploads, and no background network activity.
5. CSV Export
ATM Split allows you to export group data as a CSV file for your own records. This export is handled as follows:
- Generated locally: The CSV file is created entirely on your device. No data is sent to any server during generation.
- Shared via iOS share sheet: When you export, the standard iOS share sheet is presented, giving you full control over where the file is sent (AirDrop, Files, email, etc.). We do not control, intercept, or log your sharing choice.
- Written to temporary storage: The CSV is written into the App's temporary directory so it can be handed to the share sheet. It is never uploaded anywhere, and iOS is free to clear the App's temporary directory automatically. Deleting the App removes any such files immediately.
6. Third-Party Services & SDKs
ATM Split does not integrate, embed, or communicate with any third-party services, SDKs, or frameworks that collect, process, or transmit user data. The App uses exclusively Apple-provided first-party system frameworks:
| Framework | Purpose | Data Collection |
|---|---|---|
| SwiftUI | User interface rendering | None |
| SwiftData | On-device persistent data storage | None (local only) |
| Foundation | HTTP requests for exchange rates | None (no personal data sent) |
We do not use Firebase, Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, Unity, AdMob, Crashlytics, Sentry, Amplitude, Mixpanel, or any other third-party data collection tool.
The exchange rate API (open.er-api.com) is a public, read-only service. We have no data-sharing agreement with this service, and no personal data is transmitted to it.
7. Apple's Data Practices
While ATM Split itself does not collect data, please be aware that Apple may independently collect certain information related to your use of the App Store, such as download statistics and crash logs. This data collection is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy, not ours, and is outside our control.
We have declared in App Store Connect that ATM Split collects no data linked to or tracking the user, as reflected on the App's App Store product page under "App Privacy."
8. Children's Privacy
ATM Split is rated 4+ by Apple and is designed to be suitable for users of all ages. The App does not contain violence, gambling (real or simulated), horror, mature themes, profanity, or any other objectionable material.
Because we do not collect any personal information from any user of any age, we are compliant with the following regulations regarding children's privacy:
- COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act, United States) — We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. Since the App collects no personal information from anyone, no COPPA violation can occur.
- GDPR-K / Age of Digital Consent (European Economic Area) — We do not process personal data of minors under 16 (or the lower age set by individual EEA member states). Since no personal data is processed, no parental consent is required.
- Apple's Guidelines for Apps Used by Children — The App contains no data collection, no third-party analytics, no advertising, and no external links within the core experience.
Parents, guardians, and educators can allow children to use ATM Split with full confidence that no personal information is collected, stored, or shared.
9. Your Rights Under Applicable Laws
We respect and support the privacy rights granted to individuals under applicable data protection legislation worldwide.
9.1 European Economic Area (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and equivalent local laws grant you the following rights regarding personal data:
- Right of access (Article 15) — Request a copy of personal data held about you.
- Right to rectification (Article 16) — Request correction of inaccurate personal data.
- Right to erasure (Article 17) — Request deletion of your personal data.
- Right to restrict processing (Article 18) — Request that we limit how we use your data.
- Right to data portability (Article 20) — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Right to object (Article 21) — Object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to withdraw consent (Article 7) — Withdraw previously given consent at any time.
Since we do not collect, store, or process any personal data, there is no data for us to provide, correct, restrict, delete, port, or cease processing. Your local data can be erased by deleting individual items within the App or by deleting the App entirely. If you believe we hold data about you in error, please contact us and we will investigate promptly.
Legal basis for processing: We do not process personal data, so no legal basis under Article 6 is required on our part. Because the data you enter into the App is stored solely on your device and never leaves it or reaches us, we do not act as a controller or processor of that data, and GDPR obligations that presuppose our possession of personal data do not arise.
Data controller: Approve The Move (contact details in Section 30).
9.2 California (CCPA / CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) grants you specific rights regarding personal information:
- Right to know — You may request disclosure of the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected.
- Right to delete — You may request deletion of personal information collected.
- Right to correct — You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing — You may direct us not to sell or share your personal information.
- Right to non-discrimination — You will not be discriminated against for exercising your privacy rights.
We do not collect, sell, or share personal information. We have not sold or shared personal information of any consumer in the preceding 12 months, nor do we intend to do so.
California's "Do Not Track" signals and Global Privacy Control (GPC) are respected by default, as the App does not track users in any capacity.
9.3 Qatar & Middle East
If you are located in Qatar or other Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states, we comply with applicable data protection laws, including Qatar's Law No. 13 of 2016 on Personal Data Privacy. As we do not collect personal data, no registration with the Compliance and Data Protection Department is required.
9.4 Other Jurisdictions
Regardless of your location, the same principle applies: we do not collect personal data, so there is no data to exercise rights over. If your local laws grant you additional privacy rights, please contact us and we will cooperate fully.
10. Data Security
Although we do not collect or store personal data on any server, we employ the following security measures to protect your experience within the App:
- Sandboxed storage — All on-device data (SwiftData database and UserDefaults preferences) is stored within the App's iOS sandbox, which is isolated from other apps and protected by the operating system.
- Encrypted network requests — Exchange rate requests are made over HTTPS (TLS encryption), helping protect data in transit from interception.
- No persistent sensitive data — No passwords, tokens, credentials, or payment information are ever stored or processed.
- No remote attack surface — The App does not expose any server endpoints, APIs, or network services. The only outbound request is a simple HTTPS GET for exchange rates, which transmits no personal data.
That said, we want to be honest with you: no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and no software can be guaranteed to be entirely free of vulnerabilities. The security of data stored on your device also depends on factors we do not control, such as your device passcode, your iOS version, and the physical security of your device. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not liable for security incidents arising from circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including compromise of your device or of Apple's operating system.
11. Data Retention
We do not operate servers, databases, or cloud storage of any kind. We do not retain any user data. All data associated with ATM Split exists exclusively on your personal device:
| Data Type | Storage Location | Retention Period |
|---|---|---|
| Expense groups, members, expenses, splits, settlements, categories | Device (SwiftData) | Until deleted by user or App is uninstalled |
| User preferences (theme, accent color, haptics) | Device (UserDefaults) | Until App is deleted |
| Exported CSV files | Device (App's temporary directory) | Until iOS automatically clears the temporary directory or the App is deleted |
When you delete the App, all associated data is permanently removed from your device by the operating system.
12. International Considerations
ATM Split is available worldwide through the Apple App Store. Since the App does not collect or transmit any personal data to external servers, there are no international data transfers to disclose. The only outbound network request (exchange rate fetching) contains no personal data. All user-created data remains on your local device at all times, regardless of your geographic location.
Part II — Terms of Use
13. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using ATM Split, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the App and remove it from your device.
These terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and Approve The Move ("we", "us", "our") governing your use of the App.
14. License Grant
Subject to your compliance with these terms, we grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-sublicensable, revocable license to download, install, and use ATM Split on any Apple device that you own or control, solely for your personal, non-commercial purposes.
This license is also governed by the Apple Licensed Application End User License Agreement (EULA), which is incorporated into these terms by reference.
15. Restrictions
You agree not to:
- Copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, or create derivative works based on the App.
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the App.
- Remove, alter, or obscure any copyright, trademark, or proprietary notices.
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose or in violation of any applicable laws or regulations.
- Exploit the App or any part of it for commercial purposes without our prior written consent.
- Rely on the App's calculations as the sole basis for financial decisions, legal obligations, or binding financial agreements without independent verification.
16. Intellectual Property
All rights, title, and interest in and to ATM Split — including but not limited to the software code, visual design, user interface elements, graphics, animations, and documentation — are and shall remain the exclusive property of Approve The Move.
The name "ATM Split", the Approve The Move name and logo, and all associated branding are trademarks of Approve The Move. Nothing in these terms grants you any right to use our trademarks without prior written permission.
17. No Financial Advice
ATM Split is a convenience tool designed to help you split expenses and track shared costs among friends, family, or groups. It is not a financial, accounting, tax, or legal service, and nothing in the App constitutes financial advice.
- Settlement calculations are for reference only. The amounts displayed as owed, owing, or suggested for settlement are informational conveniences provided for your reference and should be treated as suggestions, not definitive financial obligations.
- Debt simplification is informational. The App's "who pays whom" suggestions merely reorganize recorded balances into fewer transfers for convenience. They do not create, modify, or discharge any legal obligation between you and any other person.
- Users must verify all amounts before making real payments. You are solely responsible for confirming the accuracy of any settlement amount before transferring money, making payments, or taking any financial action based on the App's output.
- Financial accuracy is not guaranteed. While we strive for correctness, we do not warrant that calculations — including expense splits, settlement optimizations, or currency conversions — are free from error. Rounding, currency fluctuations, and other factors may cause discrepancies.
- Exchange rates are approximate and may be stale. Currency conversion rates are sourced from a public third-party API and may not reflect real-time market rates; when you are offline, the App falls back to cached or bundled rates that may be out of date. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we are not responsible for any financial loss arising from exchange rate inaccuracies or staleness.
- The App does not move money. ATM Split does not initiate, process, hold, or transfer funds of any kind. It is not a payment service, money transmitter, bank, or financial institution.
- We are not a party to your settlements. Any payment, settlement, or arrangement between you and the people you split expenses with is strictly between you and them. The developer is not a party to, a guarantor of, or responsible for any such arrangement or any dispute arising from it.
- Not a substitute for professional advice. The App does not provide financial, tax, legal, or accounting advice. For significant financial matters, consult a qualified professional.
By using ATM Split, you acknowledge and agree that, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, all financial decisions based on the App's calculations are made at your own risk and sole discretion.
18. Assumption of Risk
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you expressly acknowledge, understand, and voluntarily accept the risks inherent in using an expense-splitting tool of this kind, including:
- Calculation reliance — Splits, balances, and settlement suggestions may contain errors from rounding, software defects, or the way expenses were entered. Acting on an unverified amount is a risk you choose to take.
- Rate staleness — Currency conversions depend on third-party exchange rates that may be delayed, cached, bundled, or otherwise out of date, and the true value of a converted amount may differ from what the App displays.
- Data entry errors — The App can only calculate from what is entered. Mistyped amounts, missing expenses, or misassigned payers will produce incorrect results.
- Data loss — All App data lives only on your device, with no cloud backup by design. If your device is lost, damaged, reset, or the App is deleted, your data cannot be recovered by us. We encourage you to use the CSV export feature to keep your own records of important groups.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain assumptions of risk or waivers, so some of the above may not apply to you.
19. Disclaimer of Warranties
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we disclaim all warranties, express, implied, or statutory, including but not limited to:
- Implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, and quiet enjoyment.
- Any warranties arising from course of dealing, course of performance, or usage of trade.
- Warranties that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or free of viruses or other harmful components.
- Warranties regarding the accuracy, reliability, timeliness, or completeness of any calculations, settlement suggestions, currency conversions, or exchange rate data within the App.
No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained from us or through the App creates any warranty not expressly stated in these terms. You acknowledge that the App is a utility tool provided for convenience purposes and that your use of the App is at your sole risk.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties or limitations on applicable statutory rights, so some of the above exclusions may not apply to you.
20. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL APPROVE THE MOVE OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AGENTS, OR LICENSORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY:
- Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, punitive, or exemplary damages;
- Loss of data, profits, revenue, goodwill, anticipated savings, or other intangible losses;
- Personal injury or property damage, to the extent such limitation is permitted by applicable law;
- Damages arising from your use of or inability to use the App;
- Damages arising from any unauthorized access to or alteration of your device;
- Financial losses arising from reliance on the App's calculations, settlement suggestions, or currency conversions;
- Any other damages arising out of or in connection with these terms or the App;
regardless of the theory of liability (contract, tort including negligence, strict liability, or otherwise), even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages, and even if a limited remedy set forth in these terms is found to have failed of its essential purpose.
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, our total aggregate liability for all claims arising out of or relating to these terms or the App shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the App in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim (which is zero, as the App is free) and (b) ten United States dollars (USD 10).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of liability for certain damages, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you; in such jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.
Consumer rights: Nothing in these terms excludes, limits, or waives any statutory consumer right or other right that cannot lawfully be excluded, limited, or waived under the laws applicable to you.
21. Indemnification
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Approve The Move, and their respective officers, directors, employees, contractors, agents, licensors, and suppliers from and against any and all claims, liabilities, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees and legal costs) arising out of or related to:
- Your use or misuse of the App;
- Your violation of these Terms of Use;
- Your violation of any applicable law or regulation;
- Your infringement of the rights of any third party;
- Any financial dispute between you and any other person arising from your reliance on the App's calculations or settlement suggestions.
22. Force Majeure
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we shall not be liable for any failure or delay in the App's performance, or in the performance of any obligation under these terms, caused by events or circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to:
- Outages, changes, or discontinuation of third-party services the App depends on, including the public exchange rate API (open.er-api.com), the Apple App Store, and Apple's platform services;
- Restrictions, changes, or defects in iOS or other Apple operating system software;
- Internet, network, or telecommunications failures;
- Acts of God, natural disasters, fire, flood, epidemics, war, terrorism, civil unrest, labor disputes, power failures, or governmental actions or regulations.
23. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution
These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Qatar, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.
Any dispute, controversy, or claim arising out of or relating to these terms or the App shall be resolved as follows:
- Informal resolution — You agree to first attempt to resolve any dispute informally by contacting us at support@approvethemove.com. We will attempt to resolve the dispute within 30 days. Most concerns can be sorted out quickly and amicably this way, and we genuinely prefer it.
- Courts of Qatar — If informal resolution fails, any remaining dispute shall, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the competent courts of the State of Qatar.
Nothing in this section shall prevent either party from seeking injunctive or equitable relief from a court of competent jurisdiction to prevent the actual or threatened infringement of intellectual property rights.
For EU/EEA residents: Nothing in these terms limits your right to bring proceedings before the courts of your country of residence, as required by Regulation (EU) No 1215/2012.
Consumer forum rights: If the mandatory consumer protection laws of your country of residence grant you the non-waivable right to bring or defend proceedings in your local courts, or the benefit of your local law, nothing in this section deprives you of that right.
24. Termination
These terms are effective until terminated. Your rights under these terms will terminate automatically and without notice if you fail to comply with any provision.
Upon termination, you must cease all use of the App and delete all copies from your devices. Sections 16 through 23, together with Sections 25 through 28 and any other provision that by its nature should survive, shall survive any termination of these terms.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App (or any part thereof) at any time without notice or liability.
25. No Waiver
Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these terms shall not constitute a waiver of that right or provision. Any waiver must be in writing and signed by us to be effective, and a waiver on one occasion shall not be a waiver on any other occasion.
26. Assignment
We may assign or transfer these terms, in whole or in part, to any successor of Approve The Move (for example, in connection with a reorganization or transfer of the App) without restriction. You may not assign or transfer these terms, or any of your rights or obligations under them, without our prior written consent, and any attempted assignment in violation of this section is void.
27. Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable by a court of competent jurisdiction, that provision shall be deemed severable and shall not affect the validity and enforceability of the remaining provisions, which shall continue in full force and effect.
28. Entire Agreement
These terms, together with the Privacy Policy above and Apple's Licensed Application EULA, constitute the entire agreement between you and Approve The Move regarding your use of ATM Split. These terms supersede any prior agreements, communications, or understandings, whether written or oral, relating to the App.
